Guidelines for Use of Alcohol

St. Joseph Parish-Manchester

The following guidelines were developed by the Parish Council of St. Joseph Parish and comply with the official guidelines of the Archdiocese of St. Louis and local and state ordinances regulating the sale and consumption of alcoholic beverages.

The general rule for use of alcohol at St. Joseph Parish is that the events be “adults only” occasions. Alcoholic beverages are not to be provided and/or consumed at events (social, recreational, or educational), which are designed for children.

At no time (without prior written approval of the pastor) will alcoholic beverages be brought onto the premises in cans, bottles, flasks, coolers, etc. by groups or individuals.  This includes beer, wine, and liquors used for mixed drinks.

Hard liquor is never to be brought onto the premises, served, consumed, or sold at St. Joseph Parish functions.

Parish events, at which beer (having an alcohol content not to exceed 3.2%) and wine are served, must comply with all local and state ordinances regulating use of alcohol, and must have proper licensing.  All such licensing is done through the parish office.

Those serving alcoholic beverages will be properly instructed regarding their responsibilities (e.g. serving minors, those who are intoxicated, etc).

Currently, alcoholic beverages in compliance with the above are available at two parish sponsored events at which the general population is invited:  the annual Sausage Supper and the annual Parish Picnic.  Any other such events need special approval from the Pastor.

Non-alcoholic beverages will always be available at events where alcohol is served.  These may include coffee, tea, and soft drinks.
