Meeting opened with recitation of the Divine Mercy

Priests for Life and Fr. West.

Feedback on Fr. West was wonderful.  $200 from the pro-life committee budget,  $100 from the Knights of Columbus and the Parish also donated about $300 for Priests for Life to cover their costs and another $300 for their mission.  Overall Priests for Life was sent about $900.

On an additional note the parish is looking for more gospel of life homilist.  This is great news especially since this is an independent effort from outside of the pro-life committee.

WEBSITE

The Website is up!  Guy would welcome any input for improving or expanding the content.  Diane suggested a book or reading list be added.  Go to the parish website and look under organizations for Pro-Life Committee.

WE NEED A COMMITTEE Member to own inputs & changes for the site.  You don’t need to do any computer programming … simply work with Gail Henry in the parish office and she will coordinate the technical stuff..  You just need to help work on what is said in the site.  Please let me know if you can do this.

Regarding Websites

Therese suggested those who can should visit the National Right to Life website.  If you type in your zipcode it will provide you with e-mail or contact information for your representatives.  All Action Alerts are posted here as well.  For those interested, you can register to vote on this site.  Also, the Missouri Catholic Conference is in the process of getting their site up as well.

The addresses for these organizations are:

http://nrlc.org

http://mcc.org

(Therese also suggested phoning representatives when possible.  Letters are taking too long to reach the legislator and e-mails are often not read.  FYI – both Senator Bond and Carnahan have local phone numbers)

Death Penalty Statement

Guy reported that at the next Parish Council Meeting, September 12, there would be a vote on implementing the statement or not.

Our Lady of Guadalupe Image to visit St. Joe’s

The week of September 22, St. Joseph’s Parish will host a 4 X 6 ‘ canvas image of Our Lady of Guadalupe.  The Pro Life Committee will have the privilege of her presence on September 28,  from 9:30 until 11:00 am for Mass at the Cathedral Basilica and Rosary procession to the abortuary on Forest Park Boulevard.  The Rosary will be recited in Spanish (with responses in English) to honor Our Lady’s visit to St. Juan Diego.  Many abortuaries have closed after visits from Our Lady of Guadalupe.  This is a wonderful opportunity.  Don’t miss it!  Guy is looking for someone to spearhead this event.  Please contact him if you can serve the Lord this way.

Also, on September 29, Our Lady will join the volunteers manning the Life Chain sign-up after all masses.

The only parish mass that week will also host the image.  Fr. Wetmore will say mass on September 23 at 8:30 am.

Archdiocesan Pro Life Convention October 27th

Michelle Foster did a terrific job organizing the friends for life and ad sales for the convention catalog.  33 Friends for life signed up and 12 ads were sold.  Michelle will put together a file on this activity for the benefit of next year’s volunteer organizer.

Guy is also trying to get a count on those who will be attending the convention.  There was a suggestion from Therese that students from the confirmation class could do a service project and babysit that day for those with young families who would like to attend the conference.  Also, there was discussion to have a table for eighth graders.  Diane suggested that they would be more likely to attend if they went with friends versus their parents.

NRLC National Convention to be held in St. Louis 2003

The National Right to Life Convention will be held in St. Louis next year over the July 4th weekend per Therese.  Mark your calendars now. There was discussion to perhaps raise money to sponsor people wanting to attend.

Other News

The school will be starting a spiritual adoption program.

Guy brought print outs from the Life Issues Institutes website regarding Margaret Sanger’s true history.  To view this information go to:

Life Chain ,  October 6, 2002

Steve Regan gave the following report:

Volunteers are needed the weekend of September 29, 2002 after various masses to help get others to sign up for the Life Chain.  You can do so by contacting him.  Voter registration may also be available (Diane taking care of this) at the Life Chain itself.  We will meet in the Gym, October 6 at 1:30.  After all are assembled, etc.  we will march to Manchester Road and span the distance from Baxter to 141.  Steve has enough signs for 400 people.  Bulletin announcements are planned the weekends of September 21 and 28 with pulpit announcements, too, if feasible.  A toll the bell person is needed.

Christmas Cards

Marge will again chair the selling of Christmas Cards for Birthright and Missouri Right to Life.  Stickers may also be available this year.  A website sign up sheet will be available soon or contact Marge to sign up for after Mass duty.

Doughnut Sunday

A doughnut Sunday may be undertaken in January.  Guy needs someone to chair this event.  It is a minimal time commitment and will be good visibility for us, if we can get on the calendar before the Bus Trip to Washington.

Next Meeting

Please continue to pray for Sydney Barnason, who is undergoing medical tests.
