Youth Helper Guidelines
a) Qualifications
(1) Completed 7th grade or higher
(2) Available full time for the week
of VBS
(3) Enjoys working with young children
(4) Acts as a role model for responsible
Christian behavior
(5) Willingness to serve VBS staff
and students
b) Selection Youth Helper Application Process (done with Community
Registration)
(1) At least one month prior to VBS,
interested youth have the opportunity to apply to participate in
VBS.
(2) Youth are required to apply in
person
(3) Sign up date and time is communicated
several times via church bulletin announcements and flyers (see
Article "X" Communication Guidelines)
(4) During the sign up date and time,
youth are required to complete an application (see Appendix A: FORMS
- Youth Application Form)
(5) After the sign up date, the Youth
Helper Coordinator reviews all applications, and submits both accepted
and rejected applications to the Director and Co-Director for review.
(6) The Director and Co-Director review
the applications and forward them to the Steering Committee.
(7) The Steering Committee reviews
all accepted and rejected applications to ensure that the selection
process has been followed fairly, and in accordance with the high
standards set for the quality of the VBS program.
(8) The Steering Committee forwards
the applications to the Youth Helper Coordinator with any recommendations.
(9) The Youth Helper Coordinator sends
letters to all applicants indicating their future role in VBS. A
flyer advertising the Youth Enrichment Program that runs concurrently
with VBS is included in the letters to applicants who have not been
selected as VBS volunteers.
(10) If there are not enough qualified
Youth Helpers once the sign up and selection deadlines are complete,
the Youth Helper Coordinator can draw from a pool of adult volunteers
who have signed up for other VBS activities.
c) Responsibilities Youth Helper Responsibilities - 2 per Classroom
(1) Classroom teacher will contact
YH 1to2 weeks prior to VBS to assist in decorating & classroom curriculum
preparation.
(2) Assist teacher in all program
activities including Bible stories and discussion and crafts
(3) Escort and supervise class in
all activities outside of the classroom such as music, snack time,
games
(4) Provide constructive feedback
via a survey at the end of the VBS program
(5) Youth Helper Responsibilities
- Nursery
(6) Assist Nursery Teacher in all
activities including Supervising and playing with children and caring
for their basic needs
(7) Escorting children to and from
activities outside of the classroom
(8) Provide constructive feedback
via a survey at the end of the VBS program Youth Helper Responsibilities
- Skit & Backstage Crew
(9) Participate in planning and rehearsal
for the daily performance
(10) Implement the daily performance
including acting, stage set up, and breakdown
(11) Create the final program for
the closing of VBS week
(12) Provide constructive feedback
via a survey at the end of the VBS program
