A Crucifix is the visual reminder of Jesus' obedience
to death as perfect sacrifice for all our sins. St. Louis artist,
Kent Addison, designed the crucifix in St. Joseph Church.
Mr. Anderson described the crucifix at the
time it was hung in our church: "The whole thrust of this sculpture
is to show physical stress. Elongation of the body adds to the feeling
of stretch of hanging. The technique of welding small lengths of
rods gives the broken quality to the figure, while at the same time
creates a flow from one anatomical part of the human figure to the
other, giving the sense of movement and muscular tension."
On close observation, one can see that the body
is a hollow figure, symbolizing the total completeness of His sacrifice.
He has poured out totally of Himself on the cross for all of us.
The individual rods welded together to form the physical
Body of Jesus also symbolize us, the individual members who come
together to form the Mystical body of Christ.
