St. Joe Athletic Association holds 3 major fundraisers
during the year. Extra fundraising allows us to run the best programs
we can, and keep the participation fees to families reasonable. The
money from fundraising allows SJAA to provide nice uniforms for all
of our teams, to afford maintenance for the soccer field and grounds,
to furnish additional rented gym time for volleyball and basketball,
and helps us to contribute to goodwill projects within the parish.
An annual parish favorite event is the St.
Joe Athletic Association golf tournament. It is usually held in
early September, and has been at several golf courses around the
St. Louis area. It is a 4 person scramble tournament, with prizes
for many categories. It includes a reception after the 18 holes
of golf.
In 2001 we held our first annual "Men's Night
Out All Sports Trivia Contest." Tables of 8 men answered questions
on many sports categories, and competed for cash prizes! The tickets
included beer and soda, and men could order Papa John's pizza to
be delivered right to their table!
Another annual event for the Athletic Association
is the "Sweat It Out" soccer tournament, held in early August each
year. The tournament is held at the St. Joe soccer field and Manchester
Schroeder Park fields, and is open to 6th, 7th, and 8th grade boys
and girls nonselect soccer teams. It has grown greatly over the
last few years, and features great competition from teams all over
the St. Louis area.
These fundraising efforts require a great amount
of work, but it allows St. Joe Athletic Association to provide terrific
programs for the kids in our parish.
