"Sponsored by the Sisters of Divine Providence, Room at the Inn
provides emergency shelter and a stabilizing support system to women
and families in need in St. Louis County, using a collaborative,
interfaith effort of congregations and organizations throughout
the St. Louis region." Brochure
Room At the Inn is a 24-hour emergency shelter for
families dealing with homelessness. The shelter is run by the Sisters
of Divine Providence, and serves 20 people daily at the site in
Bridgeton. The people then spend the night at two hosting Church
congregations. St. Joseph's night is the fourth Saturday of each
month. We provide a welcoming environment where clients are fed
a delicious dinner, spend some social time with our volunteers,
are given a safe place to sleep, and then enjoy breakfast before
returning to the Bridgeton facility.
St. Joseph volunteers can do one of several things:
* provide transportation from the center to St. Joseph's
Notre Dame House;
* cook dinner;
* play games and/or visit in the evening with the clients;
* spend the night; or
* provide transportation back to the Bridgeton center
the following morning.
Volunteering for Room At the Inn is an excellent opportunity
for entire families to offer a helping hand to those who could use
a little help while working to "get back on their feet". It is a
wonderful ministry for people of all ages, a way for parents and
children to show their faith in action to those in need of Christ's
love.
You can, if you wish, volunteer directly by placing
your name on the sign up sheet. In order to do this, you will need
to establish an account with Google Forms, and then you will be
able to access the form directly through the link.
