We are moving forward with our St. Joseph Strategic Plan for 2022-2024 in order to guide our parish into the future. Kelly Pingleton, a long-time parishioner and certified coach and facilitator, is gifting her time to lead our team. We expect to have a completed plan in place by May 1, the feast day of St. Joseph. Our steering committee has met and focus groups have begun. In the next three weeks we will have a series of 12 one-hour focus group sessions. We have created a variety of focus groups with the intent of receiving feedback from as many parishioners as possible from our ECLC families all the way to our Young at Heart group. You may have received an invitation to attend one of these focus groups. I ask that if you received an invitation, you prayerfully consider attending with an open heart, and if you did not receive an invitation that you pray for the team as we navigate the strategic planning process. Please know that just because you did not receive an invitation to attend a focus group, it does not mean you aren’t a valued part of the solution. It simply means we could not feasibly extend an invitation to everyone. Our parish was founded in 1855 as a cornerstone of faith in the community, serving German-speaking immigrants. The parish helped people continue their personal relationship with Jesus in a new country and bring new traditions to our area – like the Sausage Supper we celebrate this weekend!
Today, our mission to serve our community continues. We’ve spent the last several months celebrating our community and highlighting the many ministries and organizations that call St. Joseph Parish their home, and now we shift our focus to those members of our parish who bring new traditions. We are an active, vibrant destination for those who celebrate Mass in English, Spanish and Portuguese, with dynamic ongoing faith formation programs and multilingual ministries.
Our intercultural community here at St. Joseph in Manchester enriches the local Catholic landscape. The many perspectives of people in this community, as part of our parish, help us grow in faith and appreciate many cultural traditions different from the ones in which we were raised. We also recognize in a special way that many people make St. Joseph Parish their home faith community, and some travel a great distance to worship here.
This fall, we celebrate the fact that we worship together as one, holy, Catholic, apostolic church. We will celebrate the feasts of Señor de Los Milagros, Dia de Los Muertos, St. Nicholas and Our Lady of Guadalupe, as well as share in a multilingual penance service in December. I invite you to join us to celebrate one or more of these unique holy celebrations, embrace the ways we worship together, and help us grow in faith and appreciation of the breadth and depth of God’s presence in our world.
United in faith, we as members of the St. Joseph community reach out with love, embrace the future, and become Good News for others!
